We're only 200 signatures away from two THOUSAND!! I am very excited about that, but I have noticed the momentum has slowed down slightly over the last day or two. Not worried, but we have to keep sharing to demonstrate to Congress and the DOJ that this we are SERIOUS in our demand for this change!
I read the comments coming in every day and although only a couple, a couple of people have expressed concerns about the use of a sign or bollard blocking snow plows from being able to remove snow on these access aisles. However, I've also heard responses to this from people who have disabilities, that snow is often pushed INTO the accessible parking spots by snow plows. I've also seen this happen.
Also, while the entire immediate area around the bollard(s) or sign may not be accessible by a snow plow, what can't be removed by it could be removed by a shovel instead. Yes, I know snow removal using a shovel requires a little more work. But remember, we are talking about making life easier and FAIR for people who have to use these parking spots/access aisles 365 days a year, not the people who have to get rid of snow in them once in a while. And that's only whatever small portion might not be accessible by a plow.
Either way you look at it though, we can't block progress because it might inconvenience a small group of people, a small percentage of the time. Having these parking spots be usable is a RIGHT of people with disabilities that is currently being violated on a regular basis (as this petition demonstrates), People's rights must take precedence over other minor inconveniences to others in ensuring them. That is something I know we can all agree on.
Please share. :)
