The Issue

It’s been said that by as early as the year 2030 we could have more plastic than fish in the ocean. That may seem unreal but, the human race is incredibly irresponsible with plastic bags, containers, bottles, packaging, so on and so forth. While there are recycling programs in place, they are not effective. There is still an unfathomable amount of plastic that makes it’s way from the store, to people’s homes, to the trash can, to the landfill and then eventually into the rivers and  oceans. As a matter of fact, an estimated 50 million plastic bottles are thrown away EVERY DAY in the U.S.. That’s not including bags, containers or anything else. And that’s being thrown away. Not recycled. (Which is still nothing more than a business in itself.)  Along with deforestation, oil drilling/fracking, our addiction to the fossil fuels, military industrial weather modification, and unnecessary power plants that produce their own pollution; big businesses and the production of plastic is a major player in the climate change issue we are facing. We are quickly killing the environment we live in with all of our pollution, consumerism and carelessness. And by proxy, we’re killing ourselves. If the prediction is correct of more plastic than fish being in the ocean by 2030 and FOR SURE by 2050, we don’t have much time to turn this around.

So, what is the solution?

There’s honestly a lot that can be done. Especially when it comes to some of the other issues that  have previously been stated but, banning the use and distribution of any and all single use plastic items is what we are focused on here. If there’s nothing for people buy, there’s nothing for people to throw away. Which means there’s no more plastic to be going to landfills to end up polluting our land and water. Let’s eliminate the problem at its source. There are plenty of reasonable substitutes that are just as easy to implement in then place of plastic. Such as hemp plastic for example. It has none of the harsh chemicals and oils that conventional plastic does that kill us and the wildlife. Also, it is bio degradable and naturally breaks  down within a few months opposed to a few HUNDRED YEARS for conventional plastics. It’s time this country stops focusing on big profits and starts focusing on big problems. If we continue at the rate we are going, we’re going to kill all of the wildlife and ourselves. This is something that is beginning to affect everyone. It’s time for change. So let’s make change happen and ban the distribution and use of any and all single use plastics!

Thank you for your time and attention.

Sincerely,

Earthlings.
