Maximum sentencing for man accused of killing 2 endangered Whooping Cranes
The Issue
Trey Joseph Frederick was arrested Thursday and charged with violating the Migratory Bird Treaty Act for killing 2 endangered Whooping Cranes. Currently, he has not been charged with killing an endangered species, only charged under the Migratory Bird Act. Mr. Frederick should also be charged under the ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT, maximizing the fines and jail time. Texas is a diverse state with much wildlife that needs and deserves all the protection its citizens can and should provide. The habitat Texas provides to endangered Cranes is unique and we are blessed to provide them a safe respite. Birders flock to Texas to see many species of birds in their habitat and bring many tourist dollars. Birds and all wildlife should be cherished and protected. And a clear message should be sent that Texas takes wildlife laws seriously.
By submitting these 20,000 signatures of concerned citizens and avid bird lovers we respectfully request a mandatory maximum sentencing of Mr. Frederick for his crime against Texas wildlife.
