Dear Supporters,
Research and studies have shown repeatedly that the use of lights and sirens on emergency vehicles increases the risk of injury or death to the patient, to the first responders, and to the public, but provide no positive improvement for patient outcome. Despite this evidence, emergency vehicles today use intense LED flashing lights and sirens that impair vision and cognitive functioning, create discriminatory barriers, interfere with Artificial Intelligence vision systems, and put lives at risk.
To address this issue, the Soft Lights Foundation submitted a regulatory petition on December 30, 2023 to the California Emergency Medical Services Authority requesting regulation of lights and sirens to protect the comfort, health, safety, and civil rights of patients, first responders, and the public.
Sincerely,
Mark Baker
