Dear Supporters,
The Soft Lights Foundation has submitted a major new regulatory petition to the US Food and Drug Administration to publish performance standards for LED vehicle lights, including LED headlights, tail lights, Daytime Running Lights, etc. It may seem strange for the FDA to regulate headlights on cars and trucks, but because LEDs emit electromagnetic radiation from an electronic product, and because the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) claims that they don't have Congressional authority to regulate LED headlights, then the entire burden of regulation falls to the FDA.
Of course, this means that all the vehicles on the road today with LED headlights are entirely unregulated, and, as you know, hazardous. But this petition is a major step towards compelling the US government to do something about these horrifying headlights.
The FDA has published our petition to the federal register.
