Dear Supporters,

This is a chance for you to make an impact on blinding LED headlights.  Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley's office alerted me to a new strategy that we can use.  Each year our representatives in the House and Senate in the US Congress accept requests for appropriations in the budgeting process.  They are currently working on Fiscal Year 2023.

Each office has a simple appropriation form that is easy to fill out.  Our goal is to secure funding for NHTSA to train their staff on surface source LED light and to develop regulations to protect us from LED headlights.  You can help our cause by submitting an appropriations request so that Congress will allocate money for this task.

Just call your Congressperson or Senator and request their FY2023 Programmatic Appropriations form to be emailed to you.  Then fill it out.  You can choose to enter the exact information that I used, or use your own information.  Then email the completed form back to the staff person.  Here is what I submitted to Senator Merkley's office. http://www.softlights.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/FY-2023-Appropriations-Request-Form-2.pdf  Here is the response I got:

Received, thank you!

The more forms that our supporters submit to their Congressperson and Senators, the more likely it is that funds will be allocated to NHTSA to study and regulate LEDs on vehicles.

The article I linked in this post is useful, but misses the main problem with LEDs, which is that they emit non-uniform energy.  We need NHTSA to understand that LEDs are a surface source that needs new regulation.

Sincerely,
