U.S. Congress - Recognize Jan 7 as "International Day to End Conversion Therapy"
The Issue
"No one should need therapy because of therapy."
-Adam Trimmer, conversion therapy survivor
The United States government has yet to recognize January 7 as International Day to End Conversion Therapy (IDECT ) . With your help, we can change that!
By signing this petition
- you're joining Conversion Therapy Survivor Network in our call for members of the incoming 120th Congress to read a statement on January 7 recognizing IDECT. A single member can submit a statement for the Congressional Record. This will cost Congress nothing, but it will call attention to the $9 billion cost to Americans annually and the 700,000 Americans who have survived.
Why this matters to us:
Survivors often don't realize their conversion therapy was more than simply "a hard time coming out". For many of us, the first step towards healing begins when someone acknowledges that what happened to us was wrong.
Conversion therapy is widely discredited as ineffective and harmful by mainstream medical and mental health organizations. Signing this petition doesn't just tell the United States to recognize the harms of conversion therapy; it empowers survivors to finally give a name to their experiences.
It gives many survivors their very first tool for healing, validation.
After You Sign
1. Urge your U.S. Representative and Senators to read a statement on Jan 7, recognizing IDECT.
2. Educate your peers about IDECT.
3. Donate to organizations like Conversion Therapy Survivor Network, Trevor Project, or National Center for LGBTQ Rights
Together, we can put an end to conversion therapy, one signature at a time.
