It’s a long time since I started this petition. And there have been others on the same theme, but the change .org site appears not to help people search for like things before people open a new petition.
clearly much has changed since I started the petition, the war in Ukraine the knock on effects of that on gas and food prices. Inflation at a high but fuel prices massively increased. The government subsidy, but inaction on tackling some of the inherent problems in our housing stock, particularly poor insulation. The failure also to change rules to require new buildings to have solar panels on the roof.
we have seen standing charges increase significantly too. Though there does seem to be action to address the inherently unfair pricing around prepayment meters, but still nothing to address the problem of the standing charge.
There is a fuel poverty action website and an action plan there. They have some proposals which would have a major impact on fuel poverty. I would encourage you all to look at the website and to send the letter proposed to your MP’s . Whilst I don’t think the proposal as it stands has much chance of success and the private members bill put up by Clive Lewis MP, will not get a second reading until November , I think it is important to keep pressure up on government and on opposition, which may become government.
the link for the fuel poverty website is:

Thank you all for supporting this petition and for those who have signed recently as well.
Let us hope that we can get some sensible policies into our energy policy in the U.K. , sense that seems to have been missing for a very long time.
Best wishes to you all
