TODAY: Make a quick call to the city of Denton, Texas, urging it not to fund Tyson’s cruelty! Call 940-349-7717 and use our sample script below.
Tyson Foods is aiming to build a massive refrigerated warehouse in the Texas city and has requested an electric incentives package of over $700,000 because of revenue and jobs it says it will provide to the area.
Yet the poultry giant relies on thousands of underpaid, overworked laborers to turn a quick profit, allowing workers to be scapegoats instead of taking responsibility for the suffering documented in Compassion Over Killing’s gut-wrenching investigation.
After watching COK’s footage, Tyson cut ties with the contract farm and workers were fired--and the company tried to wipe its hands clean of the abuse. But Tyson has yet to acknowledge a massive source of suffering in its supply chain: The poultry giant breeds birds to grow so unnaturally large, so quickly that they can suffer heart attacks and their fragile legs often collapse under their own morbidly obese bodies -- all before they’re even 2 months old! If we grew that quickly, we’d weigh over 660 pounds at two months of age.
Make a quick, polite call TODAY to the Denton mayor’s office and urge the city not to fund Tyson’s cruelty! Call 940-349-7717 using our sample script below. Don’t forget to email campaigns@cok.net to let us know how your call went!
SCRIPT: “Hi, my name is _____, and I’m calling as a concerned citizen to urge you to deny Tyson Foods’ requested incentives package. A recent Compassion Over Killing investigation exposed horrific suffering due to Tyson’s breeding of birds to grow so unnaturally large, so quickly that their fragile legs often collapse under their own morbidly obese bodies. Yet the poultry giant has refused to take responsibility for this abuse--instead placing the blame on underpaid, overworked laborers. Please send a strong message to Tyson that public money won’t be used to fund animal suffering by denying this funding. Thank you.”
