PROGRESS: Tyson invests more in plant protein. Urge the next step: stop rapid growth

Compassion Over Killing

Dec 8, 2017 — BREAKING: On the heels of COK’s gut-wrenching investigation of Tyson Foods, and after thousands of you signed this petition urging Tyson to increase its investment in plant-based protein, the poultry giant has announced that it’s doing just that! Tyson is now increasing its current 5 percent stake in plant-based protein maker Beyond Meat.

This is a encouraging step forward--but we need YOU to keep sharing our petition on social media (http://bit.ly/TysonExposedAgain) and tag @TysonFoods to ensure the company keeps moving in this direction, and finally addresses the horrific suffering resulting from its genetic manipulation of birds for rapid growth.

Tyson clearly recognizes that consumers are flocking away from the cruelty COK has now exposed twice in its supply chain in favor of cruelty-free vegan meats. Its announcement to increase its Beyond Meat investment comes after our investigation revealed extreme violence, including birds run over and crushed to death by forklifts and live birds violently slammed or thrown at a Virginia Tyson contract farm.

And although Tyson quickly terminated its contract with the factory farm, it has yet to upgrade its own welfare policies. In Tyson’s supply chains, hundreds of millions of birds are trapped inside their own morbidly obese bodies because of genetic manipulation. These baby birds grow so unnaturally large, so quickly, that many can’t even walk as their fragile, underdeveloped legs collapse under the weight of their overgrown bodies--and those who do survive are shipped off to slaughter at under two months of age.

It’s time for Tyson’s genetic manipulation to fly the coop, and for the company to keep moving toward the real future of food: cruelty-free plant protein. Help make this a reality: Use the buttons to the right to share our petition on Facebook and Twitter today, and don’t forget to tag @TysonFoods!
