Recycle usernames
Recycle usernames
The Issue
For years frequent users have been asking when will inactive account usernames be recycled as they have been saying for years that they may bulk release these usernames but haven't set a date. Many users including small businesses and organisations have their desired username wasted by an inactive account. They just have to wait and hope that it is recycled. The inactive account policy claims they delete inactive accounts after prolonged inactivity the minimum being 6 months but this doesn't appear to be effective due to accounts with no signs of life for years. Many sites routinely delete these accounts to free up space so it is possible they could create a system like this, it would free a lot of usernames and please a lot of users.
* Please avoid commenting usernames in the comments. This is not for username requests this is a petition, definition 'a formal written request, typically one signed by many people, appealing to authority in respect of a particular cause.
(Note: didn't reach 1000+ in 6 months, seems there's currently a lack of interest in this topic. 510+ signatures delivered, could reopen sometime if relevant but there's been petitions for this before so more are likely to open.)
