The gaming industry is ruining the Gaming Community we are the change
The Issue
Time and time again, Twitch has shown us that they do not care about the very community that they claim to support. Over and over, we see examples of biases, favoritism, elitism, collectivism, and propaganda being pushed down everybody's throat. For instance, certain streamers constantly break the rules without facing consequences, while others, such as little streamers or smaller content creators, get unfairly treated, mirroring the inequalities of real life. This lack of fairness and transparency tarnishes the platform's credibility.
Twitch takes a significant cut from your earnings, including 50% of your subscriptions and even 70% at times, along with a portion of your donations and other earnings. These financial practices have created a chaotic environment, and it seems Twitch is more concerned about profit than fostering a supportive community. This has led to the platform losing its way and even self-canceling at times.
It is deeply disheartening to think that individuals living in areas like South Central Compton, Vernon, East Los Angeles, Monterey Park, South Gate, San Pedro, Lynwood, or Downey, and many others, may never reap the rewards of their hard work. It's not because they lack talent, aspirations, goals, or the determination to pursue their dreams; rather, it is due to Twitch developers, the very people who deceive their users. They suspend channels without cause, permit doxing, and cancel accounts based on the flags of just 10, 15, or 20 people, without requiring any explanation. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and goes against the principles of fairness and justice.
Furthermore, Twitch restricts self-promotion, aiming to control how much money streamers can make. They not only claim a significant portion of our subscriptions, but even a Tier 3 subscription costs $25. Additionally, when using bits, Twitch still takes away up to 30%, displaying their greed and corruption. It is evident that their primary concern lies in maximizing their own profits rather than prioritizing the well-being and success of their creators.
As members of the Twitch community, gamers, and fans of games like Halo, Destiny, Darker and Darker, RuneScape, World of Warcraft, Diablo, Counter-Strike, no man's sky, valorant, Apex Legends and countless others, we must not allow ourselves to be silenced or deleted merely for expressing different political views or having physical attributes like larger breasts. Twitch should not dictate what we wear or force us to conform to their arbitrary standards. We must stand together and bring about the change we seek.
It is our responsibility to become advocates and champions for those who lack a voice within the community. For the past three years, I have been urging you to join me in this fight for change. Together, we can challenge the industry's current state by signing this petition, taking a crucial first step toward engaging with Congress and enacting meaningful reforms. It is time for us to reclaim our communities, our industries, our games, and our development companies. We must assert ourselves against the companies that have deceived and misled us for the past two decades.
