News from Acol Parish Council

A few residents attended the Acol PC meeting on Monday 20th June in the expectation that the village's Highways Improvement Plan (HIP) would be on the agenda. It was not. Additionally, the PC Chair seemed resistant to the plan for 20 mph speed limits on our village roads, again citing the need for the Columbus Avenue extension to create a village bypass. The Council seemed confused about whether it had or had not agreed a plan/ draft plan, whether it was for Acol or Thanet, whether published... However, it was agreed that the next Acol Parish Council meeting would be brought forward to Monday 25th July to enable urgent consideration of a village HIP including the requirement for a 20 mph speed limit on all village roads.
The Twenty's Plenty petition has now achieved 200 signatures but, at the time of writing, does NOT include support from our Parish Council leadership. Please consider emailing PC Leader, Councillor Sheila Bransfield urging support for the Twenty's Plenty campaign and its urgent inclusion in an Acol Highways Improvement Plan.
Meantime, the KCC consultation on a 7.5 tonne weight limit on all Acol village roads closed at noon on 20th June. We are hopeful that the anticipated positive response from residents will mean that the limit is soon implemented and achieve some reduction in danger and noise on our roads.
