An audio recording of a "question and answer" session in a meeting held in Chattanooga reveals that TVA retirees were provided misleading information about OneExchanges's (now Via) Medicare insurance rates.
The meeting was in the Fall of 2016 and was one of many information/marketing sessions co-sponsored by TVA and OneExchange across the Valley to explain to TVA retirees how they can transition into plans offered by OneExchange.
The speaker is a OneExchange representative who responded to questions from a group of TVA retirees. The retirees were very concerned about the rates of plans offered by OneExchange and how those rates compared with the same Medigap plans they could purchase directly from insurers.
In his answers, the representative tells retirees that rates for OneExchange's plans and rates are on with file Medicare and that, by Medicare law, local agents cannot sell those plans at lower rates.
Sounds good, right? No - not so good. First of all, Medicare does not approve or review rates - that is a state function. Secondly, it is common knowledge that many of OneExchange's Medigap plans during transition had rates that were substantially higher than rates offered directly from insurers.
Shame on OneExchange (Via).
