TUSD Food Waste

TUSD Food Waste
The Issue
California has passed a law called SB 1383 that requires schools to have started to donate excess food by January 1, 2024.
However in Tracy Unified School District, cafeteria food service employees are required to throw away extra cafeteria food not served at breakfast or lunch. This food is typically still in good condition or is even sealed closed, but the district still requires it to be thrown away.
That is why we the signers are requesting for this district rule to be changed, and for TUSD to implement a plan to donate extra food to food banks or to low-income families in the district in order to follow SB 1383, reduce greenhouse gases, and feed the hungry.
