In the tropical Rain Forrest’s of Asia, vast amounts of land are being cleared to make way for the production of palm oil. A food supplement agent that is found in almost everything in the western world that is consumed by us humans. From tortilla wraps you buy at the supermarket for a family dinner to your favourite chocolate treat you would have at the cinema with a friend. Even Cosmetics to fuels.

Palm kernel oil is an ingredient in mostly all products we consume as food. Now I say consumed by us ‘humans’ if you noticed. Because what we consume like most other things in this modern world is affecting the natural world.

25 Organutans each day are killed by destroying their habitat for the production of palm kernel oil. In the Sumatran rainforest there lies the only habitat to house all these rare animals in one place such as the rhino, orangutan, elephant and Sumatran tigers. The Sumatran Forrest has nearly all but since been destroyed and only for one product that we in the west consume so vigoursly and unknowingly.

Now this petition is asking for over 100,000 signatures to ensure a voice at parliament. However, we would like to aim it also at a national favourite company that also uses this ingredient. Tunnocks. Now I love a Tunnocks tea cake as much as the next but we can push to have this ingredient stamped out and replaced with other ingredients such as coconut oil or soy, which is nowhere near as harmful to the environment or the worlds rarest creatures. Last but not least this isn’t only about animals or our furry friends in the wild as some might say, we breathe the air that these Rain Forrest’s produce for us humans also. We need them as much as the animals do. Our future generations need them as our mothers and fathers did. Please sign and let us try and change for the better.
