The TSB have announced the closure of the Ruthwell Savings Bank Museum. They plan to move the artefacts to Edinburgh away from the actual original Bank founded in Ruthwell Dumfries in 1810.  

We want the TSB hierarchy to recognise the negative impact this closure will have on the local heritage and culture of Dumfries and Galloway. 

The Museum tells the story of the early 19th Century growth of Savings Banks for the poor begun  by the Reverend Henry Duncan. It is a valuable local resource and adds to the tourism sector  in the Dumfries area. 

We see little value in this incredible story in moving the  artefacts away from our local area and the actual cottage that the Savings   Banking Structure started.
