The Issue

Did you know that YOU WILL be asked to drag your CATS out of their carriers IN THE AIRPORT and do RISKY things with them? TSA PreCheck-status Travelers enjoy "an expedited airport security screening process, the comfort of not having to remove shoes, belts or light jackets before clearing airport security and the ability to leave laptops and TSA-approved liquids and gels in your carry on luggage."

Really? I paid to become a TSA Pre-check Traveler, so TSA will trust my shoes and laptop, but not my CAT???

TSA SHOULD accept METAL-FREE Carriers (maybe with zippers, etc made out of materials such as resilient, HEAVY DUTY PLASTIC or BAMBOO, etc) to walk with you through the Metal Detector. Currently, TSA wants ALL travelers to drag our PETS out of their CARRIERS in the AIRPORT!!! Depending on the airport, their "Private Screening room" doesn't necessarily have a Metal Detector to walk through, so you'd STILL have to hold your cat with ONE hand (disabilities be damned!) and then SWITCH hands - while surrounded by strangers and possibly other pets and/or guard dogs in the CROWDED AIRPORT. IF they think "Fluffy" looks "suspicious" they will PAT HER DOWN!!! If your cat or dog is FERAL, SEMI-FERAL, HIGH-ANXIETY, EASILY SPOOKED, ETC - TSA DOESN'T CARE!!! This means HIGHER incidences of your pets escaping and RUNNING AROUND THE AIRPORT. UNACCEPTABLE AND UNNECESSARY!!!!!!! We KNOW pets can often wriggle out of their harnesses and TSA "may" want us to remove the harness so it can be run through the x-ray machine.

TSA, PLEASE UPDATE YOUR POLICY FOR TSA PRE-CHECK PET TRAVELERS!!!! EITHER allow them to STAY safely in their carriers OR produce/allow a SCANNER-FRIENDLY Pet Carrier so you can WALK THROUGH THE METAL DETECTOR WITH YOUR PET SAFELY IN THEIR CARRIER!!! TIME TO EVOLVE, TSA!!!! #DoBetterTSA
