Act to Conserve Active Bald Eagle Nest in Eagle, Idaho Before It's Too Late!
The Issue
We urgently need your support to petition the City Council of Eagle, Idaho to disapprove a request from the Buie Stoddard Group to move forward with developing an area that would result in the disturbance and take of an active Bald Eagle nest.
The Buie Stoddard Group, a Southern California real estate development and investment company, wants to buy and develop an area in Eagle, Idaho that would require the take of an active Bald Eagle nest. The City of Eagle owes its name to the large number of Bald Eagles that once made the area their home. The nest Buie Stoddard wants to disturb is one of only three active nests on the Boise River in the Treasure valley area.
The habitat in the proposed purchase and development area includes acres of unique riparian habitat along the Boise River. It is currently zoned Rural Preservation by Ada County. The habitat is home to a rich diversity of wildlife including Bald Eagles, Osprey, Double-crested Cormorants, Great Blue Heron, American Beaver, Mink, Red Fox and numerous birds of prey.
The City Council is in a position to conserve this area as it is currently zoned. A win-win would be for the Buie Stoddard Group to find another area to develop; for the land to be purchased by a coalition of conservation minded organizations or individuals; and for the Bald Eagle nest, as well as the riparian habitat, to be kept free from disturbance.
