Dear 580 Supporters,
We received another official response from the Lord Mayor regarding our intersection. While the Council acknowledges the two severe, emergency-level accidents from 26 June 2026, they still refuse to install a proper raised crossing, choosing only to proceed with basic kerb extensions.
This is not enough. We know for a fact that the intersection of Mentmore Avenue and Morley Street, as well as Crewe Place and Primrose Avenue, received raised pedestrian crossings despite having significantly lower daily foot and vehicle traffic than our black spot.
The Council letter directs us to the Acting Traffic Manager to discuss further. I need every single one of you to copy, paste, and send the email below directly to him. If 580 local residents flood his inbox, they cannot ignore us.

Subject: Urgent Safety Review Required: Hayes Road & Mentmore Avenue Intersection
Dear Mr Vengadasalam,
I am writing as a local resident and supporter of the 580-strong community petition regarding the severe lack of traffic control and pedestrian safety at the intersection of Hayes Road and Mentmore Avenue, Rosebery.
We refuse to accept Council’s ongoing rejection of a raised pedestrian (Wombat) crossing at this location.
Local residents explicitly point to nearby safety precedents set by Council:
Mentmore Avenue and Morley Street: Received a pedestrian crossing despite significantly lower vehicle and foot traffic volumes than our corner.
Crewe Place and Primrose Avenue: Received a successful raised crossing to calm regional traffic speeds.
Currently, there is zero traffic control for vehicles travelling down Hayes Road towards Botany Road, making it a high-speed, unchecked thoroughfare. The structural failure of this intersection was proven on 26 June 2026 when two separate, severe multi-car crashes occurred at 6:55 AM and 3:30 PM, both requiring emergency services and vehicle towing.
The foot traffic between The Engine Yards and The Cannery warrants identical, if not more urgent, safety intervention than the Morley Street or Crewe Place sites.

We formally invite you to meet with a delegation of local residents at the intersection on any weekday afternoon at 5:00 PM to observe the peak hour traffic gridlock, excessive vehicle speeds, and the daily danger pedestrians face trying to cross.
