What a fabulous community Waiheke is. Today I crossed the gulf to join Waiheke locals and back their call for change on the Waiheke ferry service.
This afternoon's meeting to discuss Fullers' poor performance in providing lifeline ferry connections saw more than 250 squeeze into the Oneroa hall while another100 filled up doorways or spilled outside.
Great contributions were made from the panel, which included Fullers CEO Mike Horne, chair of the Waiheke Local Board Cath Handley, Auckland Central MP Nikki Kaye and Auckland Transport CE (acting) Roger Murphy.
Locals made it crystal clear they wanted what Auckland Council and Auckland Transport wants, either Fullers relinquish their exempt status on both the Waiheke and Devonport services, or the Transport Minister and NZTA removes it.
Change is coming. Let's bring Fullers into line.
