Good morning,
As you may be aware, Transport for London last night announced to a group of Cycle Superhighway 11 Stakeholders (including our campaign team) their intentions with regards to the catastrophically badly designed CS11 scheme which will run from Swiss Cottage to Portland Place.
Despite months of detailed meetings with us and other local stakeholders where we have repeatedly raised your concerns about unacceptable traffic "reassignment" onto residential streets, increased pollution, increased disruption and severe adverse impact on the emergency services, disabled, businesses and road users who rely on motor vehicles, TfL (and Camden Council under the shameful direction of their Councillor Phil Jones - Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Transport & Planning) have condemned thousands of people to years of misery from CS11 construction works and associated impacts.
TfL have only made minor, meaningless tweaks to the original CS11 scheme including : Allowing a right turn from the bottom of Fitzjohns Avenue / College Crescent into Finchley Road northbound and re-introducing a banned turn right from Finchley Road into Hilgrove Road (which we pointed out to them will cause traffic to back up all the way along Finchley Road).
And what about HS2 we hear you ask?
Well according to the arrogant bureaucrats at TfL it will be for HS2 to model the impact of CS11 and not the other way around. Apparently TfL consider 16+ years of HS2 related works (including months and years of road closures) to be "temporary". Are you happy with that?
Why are we so angry and disappointed in Mayor Khan, Val Shawcross, Transport for London and Camden Council?
1. Because of their commitment to a worthless 100 metre piece of Public Realm behind the Odeon cinema at Swiss Cottage, TfL have committed to making the journey for working traffic travelling from Kilburn / Maida Vale across to Chalk Farm, Primrose Hill and Camden up to 10-12 minutes longer with all of that hold up taking place at Swiss Cottage.
2. Rat running in the morning for the traffic coming south from the critical A1/M1 throughout Hampstead and by the Royal Free Hospital is not dealt with at all, rather it is exacerbated by their irresponsible actions.
3. Anyone living in, working in or travelling through North London will experience over a year of intensive building works that costs a fortune to implement and accordingly will never be modified, even if TfL are proven wrong. This on the major northern entry for vehicles coming into London.
4. TFL, as well as and Cycling Leader of Camden, Phil Jones (who is up for Mayor Khans job as Cycling Tsar and can't do enough to make TFL and the Mayor happy at the expense of the residents he is supposed to represent) still refuse to acknowledge or even model one single bit of impact from HS2 which will have a devastating effect on the whole of the CS11 surrounding areas.
5. Albany Street, Prince Albert Road, Haverstock Hill and the Conservation Area of St Johns Wood, together with all of Marylebone are now officially condemned to immense traffic jams and rat running.
6. HS2 doesn't exist for Mayor Khan, TFL and Camden's Phil Jones, they just push on regardless.
If you are as angry as we are and refuse to accept this disgraceful situation then please make your voice known by e-mailing mayor@london.gov.uk or contact TfL's Head of Surface Transport Leon Daniels or tweet to @tfl or @valshawcross or @sadiqkhan :

What happens next? TfL will :
- Publish response to issues on consultation : Fri 16 Dec
- Work on outstanding issues
- Undertake detailed design (engineering)
- Construction - potentially, autumn 2017
- Completion - potentially late 2018
- Ongoing monitoring and evaluation
This terrible scheme still has to meet the approval of 2 TfL Boards and it is not too late for you to make your voice heard against it.
Please do everything you can.
Thank you and wishing you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year (which will be less happy if CS11 goes ahead!)
Daniel
