Four weeks ago tonight Jack Ryan lost his life in a shocking accident on Battersea Bridge. His funeral will take place at 11am today at a church near his hometown in the Midlands.

Fresh flowers have appeared overnight at the memorial in his honour on the bridge. Even though I never knew Jack, it felt only right that I should lay a bunch of flowers there this morning, too.

Jack's tragic death galvanised the campaign to bring better safety for pedestrians using the bridge. It is only because of him and the awful events on 13th January that change will come. It is beyond sad that it took such a senseless accident to make this change happen, despite years of complaints and fears.

Since starting the campaign, I have read every touching tribute to Jack left on the bridge. They are a remarkable testament to his legacy. I have also received countless direct messages about him - from some family members, many of his closest friends and numerous loyal colleagues at PwC.

It is clear that Jack was a hugely popular, fun, charismatic and kind man, who was leading a full and good life. He generated so much love and lasting friendships. He was only 29, yet he had already had such a positive impact on so many other lives.

Maybe you can find a moment today to spare a thought for Jack and his family, his girlfriend and his legion of friends who have been heartbroken by his sudden death.

I will pause to think of him and I will also raise a beer to him tonight.

RIP Jack Ryan.

Cheers, Rob.
