The Issue

Floods are serious and crucial problem in many communities here in the Philippines, and I witnessed how are people continue to suffer because of them. what makes it worse is the existence of ghost flood control projects. Projects that are written on paper but never truly built. These wasted funds could have been used to protect families from losing their homes and safety.

The impact of these floods is devastating, tearing apart families and livelihoods every year, especially during the rainy season. In a region prone to cyclones and typhoons, effective flood control structures are not just necessary; they are lifesaving. Unfortunately, corrupt practices have made it possible for funds allocated to flood control projects to vanish without any meaningful construction work being completed. This negligence leaves communities vulnerable and unprotected.

The government and concerned agencies must address this urgent issue. Transparency and accountability are vital. It's time to implement a robust system that ensures projects don’t just exist on paper but are built and serve their intended purpose. This means stringent auditing processes and public accountability mechanisms must be put in place. Local communities need to be involved in monitoring these projects to ensure they are completed to standard and benefit everyone.

Philippines needs responsible planning to create resilient infrastructures. Allocate funds appropriately, monitor progress to avoid ghost projects, and address corruption head-on. The safety of countless Filipinos depends on it.

Sign this petition to demand an end to ghost flood control projects. Stand up for transparency and real action to protect our communities from floods. Your support can bring about change and hold our leaders accountable.
