I am one of the millions of Americans burdened by student loans. Over the course of my repayment, I will pay over $100,000 extra solely due to the interest accrued on my outstanding debt. Today, I invite you to join me in calling for a change to this debilitating system which is leaving a generation financially paralyzed. I propose that all student loans be transformed to 0% interest loans, and any interest already accumulated on these loans be forgiven.

As of 2021, American student loan debt stands at an alarming $1.7 trillion, affecting around 44 million people (source: Federal Reserve Bank of New York). The average student loan borrower has a debt of $37,584 which could end up costing them an additional tens of thousands of dollars solely in interest over the life of their loan (source: EducationData.org). This isn't just a statistic - it is a huge weight on the shoulders of individuals trying to contribute to our society.

With 0% interest loans, students would only be responsible for repaying what they originally borrowed, enabling faster repayments, decreased burden of debt, and an overall healthier financial situation for millions of Americans.
