I have called Paisley my home for years, cherishing not only its rich history and cultural heritage but also the warmth and resilience of its people. Daily, as I walk around the town, I am deeply saddened to see the state of our beloved streets. Litter, cigarette ends, broken glass, graffiti, the unsettling presence of rats, and unsanitary bus shelters have become a regular sight. This overwhelming situation not only tarnishes the town's beauty but also poses a serious health risk to its residents and visitors.

Paisley deserves to shine in all its glory. It's imperative we restore the cleanliness and safety of our streets to protect our community’s well-being and showcase our town as the vibrant, welcoming place it truly is. Studies have shown that a cleaner environment contributes to improved mental health, increased tourism, student life at the wonderful university and the overall enhanced quality of life for the community. To achieve this, we must take collective action.

We propose implementing regular community clean-up initiatives, supported by local authorities to ensure proper disposal of waste. Additionally, increasing the number of litter bins and ensuring their regular maintenance can greatly reduce littering. Educational programs in schools and community centers about the importance of cleanliness and community pride can nurture responsible citizenship from a young age.

Enforcing stricter penalties for illegal dumping and vandalism is necessary to deter such behavior permanently. Collaborating with local businesses to sponsor street cleaning events and promoting local artists to create murals over graffiti can create a sense of community ownership and pride.
