Our advocacy group recently learned that the Department of Corrections signed a new five- year contract with Wellpath Recovery Solutions (Name recently changed to Recovery Solutions after a bankruptcy filing) This is third name associated with Wellpath. The first name was Correct Care Solutions.

The Department of Corrections extended a one year contract with Wellpath Recovery Solutions for Bridgewater State Hospital in June 2024. This contract expires in July 2025. However, the Department of Corrections declined to allow Wellpath to continue as the health care provider for the prison system due to a troubled past including failed leadership and profit over care.
Massachusetts most vulnerable population will continue to remain in the hands of an organization consistently known for its profit over care, 1500 lawsuits, 70 deaths, and an astonishing amount of failed health and dental care across the United States.
We advocate for the Department of Mental Health to take oversight authority for Bridgewater State Hospital. The DMH is the mental health experts. Allowing the Department of Corrections to oversee a vulnerable population has failed for many years. These failures include patient deaths, civil right violations, illegal restraints and forced medications, poor heat mitigation plan, poor leadership, critical employee shortages, lack of therapeutic programs and environment, and a host of other issues.
Massachusetts is the only state in the country that allows the Department of Corrections oversight for a psychiatric hospital.
