Trails and Rails Around Humboldt Bay

Trails and Rails Around Humboldt Bay
The Issue
As residents of Humboldt County, we are deeply invested in preserving the rich history and cultural heritage of our community. We believe that it is possible to create a sustainable future while also honoring our past. This petition aims to advocate for the construction of the Great Redwood Trail around Humboldt Bay, while ensuring that Timber Heritage Association (THA) can continue operating its beloved speeder rides and, in the future, full-sized passenger trains.
Living in this beautiful region surrounded by towering redwoods and breathtaking landscapes, many of us have always felt a strong connection to our local history. The Timber Heritage Association has played an integral role in preserving and showcasing our railroad heritage through their remarkable collection of locomotives and cars, as well as buildings and other historical artifacts. Their dedication has provided countless educational opportunities for both locals and tourists alike.
However, as plans for the Great Redwood Trail progress, there is concern among many community members that THA's operations may be compromised or even discontinued entirely. The trail already has been constructed almost entirely alongside an existing railroad and it would be beneficial to continue this practice into Samoa. It would be devastating to lose such an important asset that brings joy to so many people while also contributing to our local economy.
