My phone that cost more than Rs 25,000 was stolen. The police didn’t seem interested in filing an FIR. I have no hope of recovering my phone or the information on it.

If there was a theft of jewelry or even cash of the same amount, it would be taken seriously. But phone theft has become so commonplace that no one is doing anything about it.

India should have a system where stolen phones can be blocked. If thieves cannot use or sell phones, there will be less instances of phone theft.

Other countries have systems where stolen or lost phone records are tracked and blocked through the IMEI code. US does it through service providers. In Philippines, the Government blocks the phone directly. TRAI can easily implement this system.

Sign my petition to ask for a Stolen Phone Blocking system in India. It’s a simple enough request that TRAI can implement easily. Owners can send an sms request with a specific code to block their stolen phones, preventing thieves from using the phone.
