I presume by now that most people are aware that Trafford Council have awarded the contract for the redevelopment of Urmston Leisure Centre to Willmott Dixon. We were hoping that the extra funding amounting to £6.4m would at least have been split equally with George Carnall to keep the centre open but unfortunately that has not happened and it is obvious to everyone that the Council are only interested in selling the land and placing more value on profit rather than the health and wellbeing of the community. We have tried everything that we possibly could do to get Trafford to reverse its decision to close the centre but without the help of our elected Conservative Councillors it has been an uphill struggle and it now seems that the best chance we have is for the Labour party to gain control of the Council, so in the local elections on Thursday 3rd May 2018 lets keep our fingers crossed that we can get this Conservative run Council out of office and have a party in control who will find solutions to difficult problems rather than take the easy way out by selling off our valuable assets. We were hoping to get double 0lympic gold medalist Jade Jones to help with our campaign but unfortunately her own personal commitments have been such that has been impossible for her to get involved.
