Traffic Calming and 20 mph for Safety

The Issue

As a resident who lives on Folly Lane/Rocky Lane/Monton Green, I witness the danger of high-speed driving on this road daily. Speeding has become a rampant issue, especially during evenings and weekends, and it poses a serious threat to pedestrians, including schoolchildren, who frequent the area. Instances of minor to severe crashes are common, and the problem needs an immediate solution for the safety of our community members.

The proposal herein is to reduce the speed limit to 20 mph on Folly Lane, all the way to Monton Green roundabout, coupled with speed camera installations and/or further traffic calming measures at strategic points. Through this measure, we aim to effectively moderate and control vehicular speed, reducing the risk of collisions and accidents.

Studies indicate that reducing speed limits to 20 mph in residential and urban areas decreases the risk of pedestrian fatalities by 20% (source: Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents). Furthermore, speed cameras have been proven to reduce speeding-related crashes by around 40% within their vicinity (source: Cochrane Systematic Review).

Let's reclaim our neighborhood's safety by pushing for these transport regulations. This is not just a personal petition; it's a collective plea for the wellbeing of each resident locally impacted by this issue. By signing this, you are supporting a safer, more controlled environment for our pedestrians and drivers. Your signature will truly make a difference. Please, sign this petition today!
