Traffic at Elm Creek Crossing/French Lake/Brookside

Traffic at Elm Creek Crossing/French Lake/Brookside
The Issue
Dear Residents of Champlin,
The intersection of Elm Creek Crossing, French Lake Road and Brookside Trail has been a concern for many years. In 2021, as the development of the Bauer Berry Farm was being discussed, a roundabout was proposed for this intersection. We are now almost 3 years later and the roundabout continues to be delayed each year.
Citizens were told that it was budgeted and construction was to begin Summer 2024. Plans/specs have been paid for and are in process. The City had the money and negotiated with the County to waive their right of way. Later, City leadership chose to take the money out of this project and move the project to 2025.
Due to the new request to seek funding from the county, Hennepin County will be installing stop signs on Elm Creek Crossing to make the intersection a 4-way stop. The timing we were given is “Spring” 2024. Once installed, the County will do a month-long test to gather future information as to a permanent traffic change (stoplight, roundabout etc.).
We are asking the City of Champlin to add the funding back into the 2024 budget to continue to drive to a solution at this intersection. Accidents continue to occur and we need to work to prevent ongoing accidents and risk of injury or worse.
Please add your name to show your support. A number of Champlin citizens will share this with the City Council on November, 13, during the City Council Meeting Open Forum in addition to share our concerns. Feel free to join us and share your questions and/or concerns with this intersection.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Concerned Residents of The Reserve of Elm Creek
