This little idea of saving orangutans and raising awareness by eliminating the use of non-responsible palm oil has taken off today. We are gaining new signatures every minute. THANK YOU for being so passionate about this easy-to-fix issue that is killing the earth and some pretty amazing animals that call it home.
I've read every comment and some people have brought up Trader Joe's use of sustainable palm oil from Ecuador. Here's a link (http://www.traderjoes.com/digin/post/organic-red-palm-oil). While this is a step in the right direction, this is one product they sell that they say is sustainable. Most of the Palm Oil used in their other foods is not. Ironically enough, they are now making Palm Oil trendy, which will without a doubt lead to more deforestation to meet the increased demand. Mind-boggling.
Trader Joe's does not have any presence on social media, most likely to uphold their image and avoid issues like this. In that case, here is their CEO, Dan Bane's, contact information. Maybe if he gets enough links to this petition, or more importantly articles and videos about deforestation and the killing of orangutans, sumatran tigers and thousands of other animals, he may listen and make a policy change. There are so many videos on youtube when you search for things like "palm oil deforestation" and "palm oil orangutans". The one I'm attaching to this update is the video that started it all for me and I can't watch it without becoming super emotional. Please continue to post this petition across social media and maybe together we can make the kind of impact that can change the world.
