Dear Supporters, Success! Thanks to your signatures, online comments, and council between Mike Ginger of the Taunton Area Cycling Campaign (thetacc.org.uk) and Lewis Ward, Assistant Regional Development Manager at GWR, we can confirm that additional cycling racks are going to happen! 150 extra spaces will be created in the coming platform refurbishment with 20 extra spaces approved and ordered to help cover the interim. Further information may be found in the correspondence from Lewis below. Thank you all again and best wishes Sam Stevens P.S. The TACC is also running a petition to improve Taunton's cycle ways further and make the town a beacon for cycling. Please sign up at the following link if you wish to show your support - https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/taunton-area-says-yes-to-better-cycling-and-walking-provision ======= “We've got the big project to provide 150 additional cycle spaces along with substantial improvements to the station building, ticket office facilities, bus interchange, car park capacity and enhanced forecourt. The work for that will take place during, 2019/20, so not too far, and will take around 9 months to complete. However, in the meantime we're keen to ensure we have some extra temporary cycle parking as an interim measure to solve the immediate shortfall in cycle parking capacity (…) The temporary cycle parking will be in the form of toast rack style Sheffield stands - style and location now agreed by local safety and station colleagues. We'll be ordering these next week (…) Once the 150 spaces are installed as part of the big project, we'll then have enough space to not only meet demand but help encourage more people to cycle to Taunton station and I know we share that ambition. Many thanks for your help and insight, much appreciated. I hope this provides some comfort to everyone who is waiting patiently for these improvements.” - Lewis Ward
