Voters overwhelmingly rejected the Woodlands Parkway Extension and had successfully kept much progress from being made over the past several years. We didn't know that plans were being made to fund and construct this project without voter approval.
Right now, West Magnolia Improvement District is funding Woodtrace Parkway (Woodlands Parkway Extension). They will not seek voter approval and will proceed despite our 7,000 signatures on our petition opposing this project. The traffic projections from this extension will fail our already stressed roadways in the western part of The Woodlands.
The Woodlands Parkway Extension is what started the whole Incorporation process. The Woodlands Boundaries extend west of FM 2978 and as a City of The Woodlands we could block the original proposed road extension.
We were all told the county would not build this road. The county spent the last several years redesigning the road to bend around our boundaries to prevent our City of The Woodlands from blocking the extension. The realigned road traverses the same 6 miles as the original 2015 plan but now terminates into an apartment complex 1,000 feet south of Woodlands Parkway.
Incorporation is on the Ballot for the 11/02/2021 election. I am for incorporating into our City of The Woodlands so our residents can take control of our community away from a county that ignores our votes and petitions.
A City of The Woodlands would have the authority to issue a ‘No Thru Trucks’ ordinance preventing 18-wheelers from using Woodlands Parkway, Research Forest, Kuykendahl Road, or Gosling Road as alternative trucking routes. Montgomery County wants to widen Woodlands Parkway which would require removing the tree-lined medians. As The City of The Woodlands, residents would have a say in all future road development and could prevent the creation of thoroughfares destroying our quality of life, and thwart future attempts to clear cut our tree lined medians.
