I had this press release for the Township Board to approve last night. The item was tabled because some do not want the truth to be known. This was voted down 4-3. I appreciate Director McMullan and Director Fillault supporting my press release as we should be providing our residents clear communications about our community. The Woodlands Township Board of directors issues the following press release to address confusion regarding items related to The Woodlands Township on the November 2016 ballot. 1. Incorporation of The Woodlands is not on the November 2016 ballot. 2. A Woodlands Township Tax increase is not on the November 2016 ballot. 3. The Woodlands Township 2017 tax rate of 23 cents per $100 of assessed value has been adopted and this tax rate is the same as the 2016 tax rate for The Woodlands Township. 4. The regional participation agreements with the cities of Houston and Conroe are in good standing and there is no current threat of annexation unless these agreements default or expire in 2057. 5. The Woodlands Township is subject to the Roll Back Tax Rate provision which would require voters to approve any Township property tax rate increase above 8%. 6. Incorporation planning is a multiple year process and at this time The Woodlands Township board has not established a timeline for Incorporation to be placed on a ballot. 7. The Woodlands Township Board has not performed an Incorporation Tax Impact Study and will need to do so prior to communicating potential future costs. As your locally elected Township Board of Directors we want to make sure our constituents know their 2017 tax rates are set, the Township is in solid financial condition and we all are committed to providing clear and accurate information to the public.
