****ANNOUNCEMENT**** The Appellate Court in Raleigh, NC announced last week that the appeal by the Town of Weddington to disallow the charges filed by Providence VFD to move forward to trial WILL BE HEARD BY ORAL ARGUMENTS ON AUGUST 9th, 2016. This is good news. The Court of Appeals only selects a small percentage of cases to hear in person so Providence VFD is pleased they have found this case to be compelling enough to examine in closer detail. After the August 9th hearing the court will take their time to render a decision based on documents they already have and information received through oral arguments. This could be an additional 2 – 12 months. Providence VFD has always maintained our desire to serve the community. We allege that the Town of Weddington entered into a 10-year service agreement and real property transaction with Providence VFD KNOWING they had no intention to honor said contract. And it is the Town of Weddington that has the ability to make things right again by restoring Providence VFD back into operations. As time passes legal expenses on both sides continue to increase and damages continue to grow. Win or lose ultimately it is YOU, the taxpayer that pays the bill.
