Save Middleton Golf Course

Save Middleton Golf Course
Nov 3, 2023

Dear Friends of Save Middleton Golf Course -

After years of trying, Town Administrator, Justin Sultzbach, emailed me to let me know that the town will not be "saving Middleton Golf Course."

I suggested, at the very least, they open "The Bart Brown Memorial Public Putting Green."

Similar to Waltham, MA’s memorial public putting green: https://www.massgolf.org/news/waltham_puttinggreen/

I believe this would be a nice way to honor the man who built the old par 3 course and invited everyone: women, kids, seniors, to play. I also think a public, practice putting green would be a great asset for the town and a particularly attractive resource for the planned senior center.

To build a putting green from scratch it would cost approximately $50,000. Fortunately, the property has 20 putting green foundations. A local superintendent told me that with only sand, seed, water and care, you could have a putting green ready to go within a 3 – 4 months.

Although I grew up playing MGC, I now live in Reading, MA.

Justin Sultzbach likes the idea and suggests that, in order to move forward with this proposal, it should come from a Middleton resident.

If you are a resident of Middleton and willing to help propose "The Bart Brown Memorial Public Putting Green," please let me know.

It might not be Middleton Golf Course, but at least there will be a putting green!

Thank you,
Kevin Johnson
