Sample Letter. Please tell the Town Supervisor what this area means to you. 

Dear Supervisor Barber:

I am writing to oppose the 61-acre Industrial Solar Array that is being considered for land adjacent to Altamont Orchards. This project will irreparably harm one of the most iconic views of the Helderberg escarpment in western Guilderland. It will negatively impact property values for neighboring residents along with the Orchard Creek Golf Course and wedding business. While we all agree that a move to renewable energy is critical to our future, we do not need to sacrifice our beautiful landscape in order to accomplish this goal.

• The Abbruzzese family has offered a land swap that would allow this project to go forward in a place outside the view shed.

• The Becker Road and Knaggs Farm installations show that it is possible to site solar “farms” in Guilderland that do not compromise the Helderberg view shed.

• Guilderland has abundant brownfield acreage along with flat commercial rooftops that are better candidates for solar than this site.

I encourage Guilderland to follow its comprehensive plan and to act proactively to develop view shed zones that would be off limit to industrial activities.
