Torrance needs an Anti Camping Ordinance to get Vagrants off the street

Torrance needs an Anti Camping Ordinance to get Vagrants off the street
The Issue
Hello,
I put together this petition to help spread awareness for what I believe needs to happen in Torrance to help protect our community and overall safety.
This petition is personal and is NOT sponsored by the City of Torrance, just me (Aurelio Mattucci) a resident of Torrance that happens to be one of the council members elected in 2018.
Vagrancy is a growing issue for many communities including Torrance, California.
In June of 2021 the Torrance City Council will vote on a homeless plan. I have personally proposed building low cost temporary shelters and offer all the assistance any individual may need such as drug abuse counseling, mental health screening, food, job placement, permanent housing, etc. But, along with my plan, I am including an Anti Camping Ordinance that would essentially make it illegal to set up shelter on public property. One without the other will inevitably fail.
Most of the individuals that are chronically homeless are drug addicts, alcoholics, and/or mentally ill. Living on the streets of Torrance should not be an option. I will only support building shelters if an Anti Camping Ordinance goes along with it. We need to stop duplicating what has already proven to fail.
I don't want Torrance to turn into Downtown LA or Venice.
Please sign the petition if you believe an Anti Camping Ordinance is necessary to help get the homeless off the streets while providing enough shelter beds and supportive services. One without the other will only waste tax dollars and ultimately fail to get people off the street and into programs to help them.
