Hi everyone, My fellow cleaners who work at a building called 100 Wood Street in the heart of the City of London have been on strike now for 34 consecutive days. This is the longest strike in the history of the City of London and the longest strike by an entirely migrant workforce. All the cleaners are asking for is to be paid the London Living Wage of £9.40 per hour and to have their basic rights respected. 100 Wood Street is owned by Amancio Ortega, the richest man in Europe who is also the 4th richest man in the world. It is managed by CBRE a Fortune 500 company, and the tenants of the building include financial giants such as JP Morgan and Schroders. The cleaners are outsourced to a company called Thames Cleaning. In a building in which there is so much wealth it is quite disgraceful that in 2016 a small number of cleaners are having go on all out strike just so they can be paid a wage they can live on which is only £9.40 per hour. The cleaners need your support and if you want to donate either a one off or a regular payment to their strike fund then please consider doing so following this link. www.uvwunion.org.uk/emergency-appeal/ If everyone gave even £5 it would be a huge help for the cleaners and could make the difference between them winning or losing this important dispute. Here are a couple of videos we have shot at our protests and picket lines over the past month which help tell the story. https://www.facebook.com/uvwunion/videos/1089120381156200/ (after a few days on strike) https://www.facebook.com/uvwunion/videos/1091474570920781/ (speeches given by some of the cleaners on strike) https://www.facebook.com/uvwunion/videos/1093378894063682/ (protest supported by former Welsh miners) https://www.facebook.com/uvwunion/videos/1094705667264338/ (3rd protest) https://www.facebook.com/uvwunion/videos/1103264706408434/ (27th day of strike) https://www.facebook.com/uvwunion/videos/1104385822962989/ (protest supported by Blacklisted construction workers who heard that one of the cleaners had pledged to begin a hunger strike and so they came down to put their construction skills to good use and build him a Hunger Strike Hut or Solidarity Shed) If you have any questions then please leave a comment. Many thanks everyone.
