Neuigkeit zur PetitionEducational Leaders Please Pass Climate Action Resolutions to Protect StudentsWashoe County School Board Nevada Passes Strong Climate Action Resolution

16.12.2018

Hi All,

Great news---Washoe County School District in Reno, Nevada (the 66th largest in the nation) became the 28th school board in 5 states to speak up for national climate action to protect students. They passed this strong climate action resolution on 12.11.18. 6th grader Robbie Bonds (www.kidsspeakforparks.org) led this effort. He was supported by 4 other youth as well as adult supporters of Schools for Climate Action. Big thanks to Janet Atkinson, Robbie and Michelle Bonds, and Nancy Lichtfield! And, of course, the trustees and Superintendent of Washoe County School District.

The time between the first stakeholder email to the board and a passed resolution was 2 months. With every new resolution, the threshold for passing subsequent resolutions gets lower and lower. With your help to do outreach, we could generate hundreds of these resolutions in months. School board members are hungry for a non-partisan tool to break the silence on climate neglect by Congress.

Please send your school boards (local, county, state) an initial email. Also, please continue to share this petition. We are getting closer to flipping the norm of "climate justice silence" among education leaders. Right now, 0.005% of ed leaders have spoken up for climate justice, but likely 70% value it. Please email your school boards. 90,000 local elected education leaders can be a powerful force advocating for a safe climate for their students. Thanks!

Cheers,

Park
