Democratic National Committee, Tom Perez: Andrew Yang Must Be Included In The Debate
The Issue
We believe that Andrew Yang, a declared Democratic presidential candidate, deserves to be included in Democratic National Convention sanctioned debates. Andrew Yang addresses America’s current transition through the greatest economic and technological shift in human history. An economic and technological shift that, left unaddressed, could lead to widespread civil unrest and economic collapse.
Without Andrew Yang in the debate schedule, Americans are not getting a fair chance to hear from candidates that are outside the current political system. Candidates who support mainstream Democratic ideals, coupled with progressive, thoughtful, and bold policies.
We understand that it’s hard to fairly decide who is selected, but numbers don’t lie: Andrew Yang’s message resonates with Americans. His contributions have grown from the thousands (Q3 2018) to the tens of thousands (Projected Q4 2018) with 95% of the contributions in Q3 coming in at less than $200. His supporters are vast, representing all 50 states. His campaign is the essence of grass roots, representing a set of real, diverse Americans. He provides a message of pragmatic concern. He proposes solutions, through thoughtful policies, to our nation’s current social and economic shift, with emphasis on Americans who feel left behind or disenfranchised.
The DNC has stated that monetary contributions will not be the sole candidate requirement for the debates. That more grassroots measures will be evaluated for the most equitable selection process. We think, through the data shown above, Andrew Yang’s presidential campaign can’t be dismissed.
Please include Andrew Yang, a declared Democratic presidential candidate, in the Democratic National Convention sanctioned debates.
Thank you for your consideration!
