Aurora Ward 6 – Important 2026 Municipal Election Update!

Hi Neighbours!
With advance in-person voting at the Aurora Seniors' Centre ending tomorrow at 8pm, here’s an important update for residents who have not yet voted.
Four years ago, 855 of us came together to oppose the proposed 6-storey 155 unit development at 271 Holladay Drive.
Aurora Town Council voted 6–0 against the proposal, with Mayor Tom Mrakas publicly supporting our community’s position.
Unfortunately, that wasn't the end of the story.
- December 2021: The developer (Shimvest) appealed to the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT).
- April 2023: Aurora Council discussed the appeal in closed session and subsequently reached a settlement allowing the six-storey development to proceed.
- May 2023: Ward 6 Councillor Harold Kim confirmed the agreement by email only after some residents “discovered” it through the OLT proceedings and questioned him about it.
- August 2023: Following a June 22 settlement hearing, the OLT issued its written decision on August 21, approving the development subject to conditions.
For many residents, the way this unfolded raises important questions about transparency, communication, and accountability.
Other matters residents may wish to consider include:
Campaign contributions: Harold Kim's publicly disclosed 2022 campaign financial statements (page 5) list contributions from individuals identified as having connections to the real estate and development industry, including Jack Eisenberger (Fieldgate Developments), Jeremy Baruch (Paradise Homes), Mitchell Goldhar (SmartCentres), David Stewart (TACC Developments), and more.
Political history: While serving as Ward 6 Councillor, Harold Kim pursued other political opportunities twice:
- 2021: Ran and lost against Tony Van Bynen in the federal election.
- 2023: Ran and lost the Conservative nomination to Sandra Cobena.
ELECTION 2026 - Ward 6 Candidates: Three candidates are challenging Harold Kim, including Ward 6 resident ZIVKA KICIC, who is among his strongest competitor.

Harold Kim has served on Aurora Town Council for nearly 12 years. During that time, our community has experienced substantial development and increased density.
As we look ahead to the next four years, residents should consider Kim’s Council record, the campaign contributions disclosed in his 2022 financial statements, and his two unsuccessful pursuits of federal office while serving as a Councillor.
Our community deserves transparency, accountability, and a meaningful voice in decisions that shape our neighbourhoods!
Please take the time to review the candidates, ask questions, and make your voice heard in this election.
EVERY VOTE MATTERS!
