Petition to Reinstate Sheikh Wesam Charkawi
To the NSW Department of Education and the Broader Community,
We, the undersigned, call for the immediate reinstatement of Sheikh Wesam Charkawi to his position within the NSW education system.
Sheikh Wesam Charkawi has been an integral part of the Australian Muslim community, dedicating years of service to education, interfaith dialogue, and social cohesion. As a scholar, educator, and principal of Al-Azhar College, he has played a pivotal role in shaping young minds, promoting inclusivity, and fostering a deeper understanding of faith and community values.
His dismissal is not only unjust but also a loss to the many students and families who have benefited from his leadership and mentorship. The lack of transparency surrounding this decision raises serious concerns about fairness and due process.
We urge the NSW Department of Education to reconsider this action and reinstate Sheikh Wesam Charkawi to his rightful position. Education should be free from political influence, and committed educators like Sheikh Charkawi should not be unfairly penalized for their advocacy or community involvement.
He has spent his life in service to his community and has done his best to foster good relations between everyone. This is nothing more than a witch hunt against him for his leadership of the Muslim Vote and his public stance on Palestine.
We, the supporters, demand:
- A clear explanation for the dismissal of Sheikh Wesam Charkawi.
- An independent review of this decision.
- His immediate reinstatement to continue his invaluable work in education. We stand in solidarity with Sheikh Wesam Charkawi and call upon all community members, leaders, and advocates of justice to sign this petition and support his reinstatement.
