reduce/cap/re-evaluate the percentage JUSTEAT charges restaurant and takeaway partners
The Issue
In recent times (especially since covid) communities around the uk have become more accustomed to order through food delivery service just eat (and many others) But i emphasise just eat because of its market power, size and inequitable charges.
This is taking a toll on food businesses who now depend on just eat for a profit (as it’s where a majority of the sale come from nowadays for many businesses).
just eat claim to take around 14% of total profit + vat. However, across the board per order/invoice just eat is taking around 30% of profits, not to mention the high volumes of customer compensation just eat takes off per invoice, on top of this anyone who orders through just eat pays a service charge of around 5% of the order value with a maximum charge £1.99…Yet just eat still has the audacity to charge such a high gross commission without any concession or relief to struggling businesses.
If you add this together with recent increases in energy, overheads and supplies. Food business are not able to survive at the moment with the level of customers ordering online. The profits are non existent. This leads to a closure of many businesses which were once profitable but are now on the margins. As a result, many business owners are losing their livelihoods and the workers in this sector are losing jobs due to closures and business trying to cut their overheads.
In a once flourishing sector this company has spread like a disease to the businesses by damaging the very infrastructure of this market.
The government and regulating bodies of this company needs to step in now while there’s still time before more businesses, jobs and livelihoods are lost. This is also affecting our economy as its starting a chain reaction whereby more businesses and people who are damaged by this are turning to the government for help due to lack of jobs to help with living costs.
