Mise à jour sur la pétitionTiny House Appendix: Act 2We’re Not Giving Up — The Movable Tiny House Effort Moves Forward

Hi everyone, happy new year and thank you for continuing to be here with us.

After the committee chose not to advance our proposal in Cleveland in October I was sad. Really sad! We faced a clear choice: give up, or adapt and try again for the very last time we can this code cycle. If not now, it will be 2030 before someone can try again. We been exploring options and I believe we have identified a viable path forward. So we’re trying again and pubic support is even more crucial.

We are now preparing to bring this proposal to the Public Comment Hearing (PCH) phase this spring. This is where proposals are debated publicly, refined if needed, and either approved or stalled permanently. It has a higher bar to pass, requiring a super majority (⅔) vote from the entire voting body.

In short: it's a heavy lift but it’s possible. In fact, it's the exact stage where we passed Appendix Q back in 2016.

Right now, a small team of independent engineers, builders, inspectors, and long-time tiny house advocates are working to:

  • Respond directly to committee feedback
  • Refine and clarify the technical language
  • Develop prescriptive engineering pathways that would reduce cost and risk for future builds
  • Show up in person to ensure this proposal is clearly understood and fairly considered

Public visibility matters even more at this stage. Continued engagement as this moves forward — both signatures, and outreach — helps show that this proposal represents real people and real housing needs. As we move forward, we are coordinating nationwide outreach to help inform local building officials, who will hold the vote during this phase. We want to make as many jurisdictions as we can aware and well informed. If you can help with that you can sign up for the emails with the plans as they unfold HERE (check your spam folder if you don't get a confirmation).

We are also raising funds to ensure a strong in-person presence at the Public Comment Hearing in Hartford, Connecticut at the end of April. The fundraiser has been set up to help advocates attend.

If you know anyone near the area who may be able to help, feel free to reach out to me directly at mizacy@gmail.com.

What you can do right now:

  • Help us gather more names on this petition.
  • Talk about this effort in tiny house, DIY, and housing advocacy spaces
  • Donate to the fundraiser to bring advocates to the hearing
  • Stay engaged as we move through the remaining steps of the code cycle (sign up for direct emails HERE)

Code changes don’t happen quickly — and they don’t happen by accident. They move forward because people keep showing up, even when the process is long and technical.

Thank you for continuing to show up with us.
