Hi everyone,
I wanted to share some tough news: our tiny home code proposal did not pass at last week’s hearing (CAH2). It’s heartbreaking - after so much time, energy, and heart. It’s been hard to process, but like we so often have to do in the tiny house world, I’m finding my footing again. I don’t think this is the end.
Please know, we didn’t lose because we weren’t prepared - every person involved showed up and gave their all. You can watch the full testimony [HERE]. I think you’ll be as proud of everyone as I am. The main reason for denial came out of left field, and we weren’t given a chance to offer any rebuttal. It felt unfair, especially since we strongly disagree with the comment that tipped the vote when it seemed to be going so well.
Right now, Martin, David, and I are taking a step back to regroup and understand what the biggest friction points are and what we can do about them. We’re deciding if we feel we can sufficiently address them and bring the proposal back for the final Public Comment Hearing this spring. It’s a tougher process, and if we go for it, we’ll need a strong, united push from the community - but if we don’t try, it will be another three years before we get another chance.
I remain hopeful as we try to work out some of the undercurrents around this. There’s clear support for tiny homes and for creating safe, legal, and dignified housing options. A 4-6 vote is the best we've ever done honestly. Before we make our next move, we're taking some time to make sure our community is aligned and ready to stand together.

I’ll keep this petition open to continue collecting public support while we decide our next steps. This big pile of signatures certainly helped tip the scales the right way!
