Despite over 1000 signatures on our petition for Superintendent Baird to spend our District funds on core, state-mandated requirements, he presented a "compromise" and has been lobbying the PTAs and EEF chairs. Unfortunately he has ignored our request and continues his shell games to promote his special interests, rather than fund what the State and parents want. Instead:
• New proposal keeps 100% of original Health & Wellness program intact while giving little in return
• Average per hour salaries for yoga teachers are likely to be higher than those of their counterparts teaching core academic subjects
• Only pays a minority of costs of currently parent-funded core academic programs
• Parents will still need to provide nearly the same amount of support for core programs as salary increases are passed along to EUSD families
• Parents for Responsible Education Spending want a rational budget that supports a balanced academic agenda without a myopic focus on non-core programs
• Baird ignores requests to rid of yoga and replace with full PE program which is mandated by the State
The proposal is definitely not a win for students, parents, and taxpayers. It is a clever façade that fails to respond to the community outcry. Click on our response attached to learn more about the numbers and facts and please share with as many parents and community members as possible.
Don't forget! Parents for Responsible Education Spending Rally tomorrow at 4:00pm!
