On World Cleanup Day, Greenpeace and other groups concerned about the environment collected over 10,000 litres of trash across Canada including food wrappers, plastic bottles, coffee cups, and more.

The groups counted the amount of trash originating from each company and found that Tim Horton’s, along with Nestlé, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, and McDonald’s are amongst the biggest polluters in our country.

The group also found that over 75% of the trash collected was plastic.

It is very clear, making disposables recyclable is simply not enough. Tim Horton’s must go a step beyond and ensure their single-use products are more environmentally friendly. But above all, they must be leaders in shifting the single-use culture and promote reusable cups - which is the most sustainable solution to unnecessary waste.

Time and time again people report going to Tim Horton’s with their cups and employees pouring coffee in a single use disposable cup to then pour it into their reusable cup - to save time when measuring and serving. Is saving time more important than saving our planet? As young people we just can’t understand the promotion of such a wasteful culture.

Please keep on sharing this petition on your social media channels to take care of our only planet! Together we can have influence, we can make this change happen.

Join us in asking Restaurant Brands International — the owners of Tim Hortons, Burger King and Popeyes — to join the #BetterCup movement and to immediately begin promoting a more sustainable culture. #BreakFreeFromPlastic

Thank you,
